I had a funny story happen to me. I posted an ad on the bulletin board selling a Samsung phone. After a few minutes, a man messaged me, asking:
- Do you think a baby would feel cold in a stroller during winter?
I replied:
- I'm not selling baby strollers. Only phones. Silence...
- I'm curious, if I buy a stroller for the baby, would he feel cold in it during winter? - the man persisted.
- You know, I'm selling a phone. You're messaging me about the phone ad. What does this have to do with a stroller?
- I need a baby stroller. You're a woman. I thought maybe you could advise if the baby would be warm. Surely, you're a mother.
At that point, I paused... What should I do? Stay silent... give advice... or tell him off... But his 'surely, you're a mother' already touched emotional strings... So, I decided to answer.
- The baby will be warm. You'll dress them in warm clothes based on the weather. Besides, many strollers have protective covers. In the worst case, you can use a blanket or a cover... - I replied.
- Ah! Right! Yes, I saw, there's a thing that straps onto the stroller... So, it means it will be warm, you say?
- Well, yes...
We talked about various nuances regarding children and strollers, accessories, and more. Unconsciously, I became almost like a consultant. This man was very thankful, he was as happy as a child that he reached out to me. As a parting remark, he said, "I just knew you were a mother and that you wouldn't refuse to help me."
I sold my phone almost a week after that conversation. Though without any more questions about baby strollers... And Oleg (that man) and I continue our communication even now, beyond the bulletin board, even though our unusual encounter happened more than a year ago. We exchange stories about kids, sometimes go to parks together with our children, as it turns out, we live in the same city.
Perhaps, it's not by chance that life arranges such meetings for us... Even on bulletin boards.
