Thailand has officially notified Russia of its intention to join BRICS. On June 11, 2024, Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa handed an official letter expressing the country's intention to become a full member of BRICS to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This step signifies Thailand's desire to join this international organization.
According to media reports, in May, Thai authorities stated that BRICS membership would allow the country to "participate in the creation of a new world order." This move was discussed at the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meetings held on June 10-11 in Nizhny Novgorod.
BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) is an association of five major emerging economies that seek to strengthen cooperation and mutual influence on the global stage. Thailand's accession to BRICS could enhance its position in international politics and economics, as well as promote collaboration with other member countries.
